The Wicked Witch of the West

Wicked Witch of the west:

The Wicked Witch of The West is the terrifying ruler of the Winkie Country in the "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," a children's story by American author L. Frank Baum. She has only one eye, which can see as far as a telescope, and she usually carries an umbrella, as water is deadly to her. The Winkies are great craftsmen, whom the witch has enslaved.

Onscreen the most memorable portrayal has been that of beloved character actress Margaret Hamilton in the MGM musical film "The Wizard of Oz," (1939), which starred Judy Garland as Dorothy.

In the indie film "L. Frank Baum's the Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the Witch is shown as being blind in one eye, and it is intimated that she did this to herself as part of a magical procedure to give herself telescopic vision.

In the Miniseries "Tin Man" the Wicked Witch of The West is seen again. Only this time she is possessing one of the Princesses of Oz.

In the third season of ABC's series "Once Upon a Time" the Wicked Witch (Zelena) seen as Evil Queen's sister. She is an enemy to people in Storybrook.

She has been know by many names over the years. In the original story, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," she did not have a name. In various works since, she has been called by the following names:

Momba (1910) (The Wonderful wizard of OZ (Slient movie))
